According to the results of the 2013 State of the Bible survey, 77 percent of Americans believe that the nation’s morals and values have been declining. Thirty-two percent blamed the decline on a lack of Bible reading in the country while 29 percent cited the “negative influence of media.” A quarter blamed corruption from corporate greed. Most Americans (56 percent) believe the Bible has too little influence in American society while only 13 percent think the Bible has too much influence.

Although 66 percent of those surveyed said the Bible contains everything a person needs to know to live a meaningful life, 58 percent said they don’t actually want the wisdom and advice given from Scripture.
