With temperatures in the teens, the city of Detroit has announced that it has opened two warming centers for residents who need a break from the winter chill.
The warming centers are at Cass Community Social Services and Operation Get Down. Both are open from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am during inclement weather and are expected to remain in operation through March 31. Those hours of operation will be extended if the forecast calls for low temperatures of 10 degrees or lower.
Cass Community Social Services is at 3901 Cass Avenue and Operation Get Down is at 6821 Medbury, between the I-94 service drive and E. Grand Boulevard. The centers will also extend the hours of operation until noon or operate on weekdays when the day time temperature remains below 35 degrees.
Anyone needing the assistance of a warming center can contact Cass Community Social Services at (313) 883-2277 or Operation Get Down at (313) 921-9422.
