Walk-Fun Run On Belle Isle Giving Young People ‘Reasons To Wait’

This Saturday MOTIVITY – sponsored by St. John Health Systems will host its first annual 5k walk-run to help battle the myths with teens and sex… and educate them about abstinence.

A tough challenge for sure but MOTIVITY is up to the task by collecting over 200 reasons why teens should wait. During the walk-run, participants will collectively walk a mile for the 200+ reasons that were collected. The submissions were collected via Facebook, email and the MOTIVITY website

According to Donna Pinchum, founder of MOTIVITY, “Most kids have sex because they feel pressure to and they falsely think that everyone else is doing it.” Pinchum goes on to say that “We are living in a society where our kids are being flooded with sexual messages… directly or indirectly.”

Here are some startling facts:

Of the 2421 teen births in Detroit:

  • 44 were to girls under the age of 14
  • 875 were to girls 15-17
  • 1502 were to girls 18-19
  • 2127 of the 2421 teen births were to African American Girls!

All great motivators to get you out with your teen girls tomorrow!
