‘Sunday Best’ Season 5 Begins With Laughter And Rebukes

The first installation of BET’s Sunday Best hit the airwaves last night… and you know where I was? Right… front and center of the TV with twitter on the laptop!

The biggest complaint was that Kim Burrell was mean. But you know what – now this is just one DJ’s opinion – just because you sing in the choir doesn’t always mean you should sing solo. Someone needs to tell you! And, because these people are bold enough to come on and sing, then they should be able to hear the truth.

Yolanda Adams seemed to lose patience with contestants who don’t listen to direction. And when asking a couple of contestants to sing a song straight without the runs, it became clear to me that some young folk just don’t know what that means.

Donnie McClurkin was pleasant and fair… but when he told one of the finalist that she needed to do something about her “Jezebel make-up” I almost passed out. Admittedly, the chile’ can sang… but I was worried her lashes were going to crawl off her face too!

Gotta Love Kirk Franklin’s humor and boundless energy… Now, bring on CeCe Winans!
