“We are searching for people who are looking to make a change through education and who are looking for a little help,” says Rize: Detroit City Director Tracey Wilson. “Personally, I am here today because of the help that I received from Dr. Drew Pinsky, Judge Greg Mathis and Brian Kraft. Without them, my situation would have never changed. They showed me the power of education and the opportunities that arise because of that knowledge. Rize: Detroit City is a platform for me to share that message with others.”

Wilson excelled in academics as a youth, but dropped out of high school. By chance, he stopped at the Mathis Community Center after seeing a sign touting GED training. Through hard work and assistance from Judge Mathis’ staff, Wilson soon earned his GED, and began pursuing his passion for filmmaking.

Judge Mathis shared Wilson’s story with Dr. Drew and Brian Kraft, Chief Academic Officer of the Recording Radio Film Connection who were eager to help. During an appearance on Dr. Drew’s Life Changers, Kraft gave Wilson a full-paid apprenticeship to the Film Connection’s Learn in L.A. program.

Rize: Detroit City is Wilson’s first feature length documentary that illuminates the city of Detroit by showing “Where it once was, what it is now and what it can be through education.”  For more information or to schedule an interview with Tracey Wilson, director of Rize: Detroit City, call Nikita Cargins at (248) 721-7014.
